I had the chance to attend a disaster preparation exercise at the Media Park in Hilversum, one of the few high-risk areas in the region ’t Gooi. Most of the national TV shows get recorded at this place. There are tons of electrical equipment and a lot of people in a fairly small and densely populated area, so it’s important to make (and rehearse) emergency scenarios that could be needed some day.

In this particular scenario, an office caught fire during demolition work. The entire building was filled with thick, black smoke. The fire department had to evacuate the 14 victims (real people, no dummies were used) quickly, carefully and above all: safely.

I had the chance to attend this disaster preparation exercise, which is usually closed to the public.
